With auto-loot on, when you kill a monster you take the coins from what is left of it: its corpse, or the pile of dust and bones when there is no body. If your charmed pet makes the kill, you take them, if you are there. You do not take anything from other players' corpses.

'reap' takes the coins from every corpse and pile of dust in the room (except other players' corpses), as if you had looted each one.

With auto-split on, the coins you loot or reap are shared, as SPLIT does, with the players of your group who are in the room.

Both are on to begin with. Turn them off or on with 'set autoloot' and 'set autosplit', or on the Settings pane of the game's client.
